Hey y’all, as you can see my name is Abbey Rae, and I am a full-time traveler with a love for writing. I was born and spent most of my life in the American South, more specifically in the coastal town of Virginia Beach.
My curiosity for the world started back at the curious age of 14, and in all places my 9th-grade English class. One semester we learned about the different religions of the world. For the first time, it got me thinking about new cultures, perspectives, and honestly, cuisines. (I love to eat).
to my first real trip abroad on my honeymoon to Greece, (I don’t count the Caribbean as abroad). This is when I saw the world with brand new eyes. The people here seemed happy, carefree, and had a love for the simple things in life. And the food, don’t get me started on Greek food.
I spend all day with a tour guide on a boat in one of the greek Islands. After about 8 hours of conversion, and a few cold mythos together, I wasn’t asked where I was from or what I do for living, (VERY common in the states). Instead, he simply asked me, are you happy my friend? I had never been asked that before. And my mind was so blown that I don’t even think I gave him answer. My entire perspective of life changed in one day, with one simple question. Am I happy?
This was back in May of 2018. From there I had my heart set on full-time travel, and no one could tell me anything different (and trust me they tried.) It hasn’t always been an easy journey, but as my dad once told me, I can do anything I want, all I have to do is try.
By 2020, I had sold my beautiful house, quit my professional Pharmacy job that I worked SO hard for, learned a few new skills, (thanks youtube) and was ready to embark with a one-way ticket to Portugal.
I left America with my husband, my sweet and goofy yellow labrador (RIP Bubby), and four suitcases packed to the brim (today I have one.) Ready for this crazy, fun, advenrous, new life. A few months later I started tripsonabbeyroad.com as a way to get down my thoughts, share my photography, and to help fellow travelers find their love of the world.
I had no idea that my world travel blog would take off the way it did, and I will forever be grateful for the people who have helped me along the way. You know you are! My true loves in this world we all share is my amazing husband, my mom and dad, and sharing these stories for all of you to read. Now that you know a little bit more about me, Abbey Rae, I hope to learn more about you!
